Hello #BoutOfBooks-ers!
The read-a-thon has been so much fun over the years, but after a lot of discussion, Kelly and I have decided that Bout of Books in August will be the last one.
When I started Bout of Books on a whim 13 years ago, I never imagined it would be what it became. A community of book lovers coming together to read and have fun and make connections.
But like all good things, it's time for Bout of Books to end.
This has been coming for a long while. The number of people participating every time has steadily decreased, especially with the decline on Twitter, and neither of us has the time or capacity to give the read-a-thon the energy it requires.
What we've created in the Bout of Books community is important and valuable. And while we're not looking to pass the torch to someone else, we do want to keep our discord open so that even after this August iteration is over, you can still connect with other readers.
At its core, Bout of Books became carving out any little bit of time to read, together, and I hope everyone uses the discord with the same intent. Instead of formal read-a-thons three times a year, the discord allows people to have a Bout of Books whenever you need it.
Thank you to everyone who has been with us, whether you're new or have been with us from the start.
